Project Detail:

Objective: The project's primary aim was to design a wheelchair lift system that could be integrated under a van. Key goals included ensuring the lift fits neatly under the van, minimizing  modifications to the vehicle, and maintaining the van's full functionality.

Challenges:

  • Preserving all existing functionalities of the van.

  • Achieving a quick, 30-minute changeover for maintenance purposes.

  • Ensuring roll-on/roll-off wheelchair capability with a gentle 1:6 slope for easy access.

Strategy and Achievements:

  • Developed a lift with a robust 1,000 lbs weight capacity, catering to a wide range of wheelchairs.

  • Achieved a significant milestone in durability, with the lift designed for 250,000 cycles, ensuring long-term reliability.

  • Successfully integrated the system with minimal van modifications, demonstrating innovative engineering and design.
